Help and advice please

Hi guys,

I am thinking of getting a tablet pc for son as a christmas present but don't know which one,it doesn't need to be all singing and dancing just for watching movies, playing the odd kids game emails etc.I have seen a Binatone homesurf for £100 ish but seems a bit small so i think a 10" would be a better option and maybe with a usb port for an external hard drive.Tryink to keep under £150 if this is possible.

Thanks,

Mandy

Don't know much about these things... Perhaps someone else can advise as to the value.

    Hannspree Hannspad Tablet £159.99

Oh...for Christmas. Yes, things can change quickly.

Just keep having a look over the months, by Christmas time you'll understand tablets better and know what you're looking at.

www.hotukdeals.com will often have various tablet deals going, and you'll likely learn a lot through the discussions. Just keep in mind there are people out there who will heavily criticise the cheaper tablets because they are missing a minor feature, or because they aren't the direct equivalent of an expensive iPad.

Also don't be persuaded by people saying that you necessarily have to avoid a 'resistive touchscreen' (vs a 'capacitive touchscreens'). Unless someone has used a particular screen, then they don't know how good it is to use. Most of the kind of people who say "resistive screen? avoid" haven't actually used such a screen in years, back when the technology was less developed. I've used resistive screens that are very responsive (feel like capacitive), as well as older ones that are fairly poor.

Just decide what you want from it or you think your son might want from it. Come back closer to Christmas if you want some more directed advice ;)
  • ipad....he'll love you forever. With the ipad 3 coming out later this year the ipad 1 is getting cheaper and cheaper.
Or you could go for the ipod touch, yes smaller screen but smaller price and very dependable...he'll still love you but not as much :)

Avoid the cheapos including archos buy cheap pay twice....so damn true !
