Rug is driving me up the wall!

Options
I bought a nice new hand knotted wool rug in the sales before Christmas but it is driving me daft. The instructions said not to hoover it "For Some Time" It is producing buckets and buckets of "Ghost Poo" - It is going everywhere, fluff under the furniture, on me piccies on the wall and is now excaping into the hall, the house is starting to look like a deserted western town and I'm sick of picking the stuff up. Sooooooooo when do you think I can hoover it and is there anyway of stopping it shedding?

TIA

Should that not be "driving me through the wall" what with your ghost poo?

Sorry, no sensible comment to be made. I'm having a mad moment.

:rotfl: Tumbleweed Town. I take it you have laminate flooring? Me too, which is why I'm saving like mad to have it re-carpeted. I've had that many rugs in the last 3 years, from cheap to expensive, manmade fibres to natural fibres, doesn't matter how often the rugs have been vacced they still produce tumbleweed. Eventually got rid of rugs completely, but needed something a bit warming over Christmas so went out and bought a another wool rug and the tumbleweed has returned.
  • how about sweeping it with a dustpan and brush for the time being

How about using the nozzle bit of your hoover and hovering it above the rug to suck the tumbleweed up without touching the rug?

I bought some lovely 'throws' for my sofa from Ikea last year and they left green and red 'dust' everywhere. Even after washing a few times they continued to molt. They are currently living in vaccum seal bags in a cupboard :(. Hope you get better luck at stopping it.

PS if you're worried about it suckingthe rug into the nozzle, perhaps try tying some old tights over the nozzle?

Does anybody know how to stop a rug "creeping"? I've got one under my computer desk in the hallway, it's over the fitted carpet to protect it by the front door but I'm forever pulling it straight because it creeps into humps.

    Grrrr!!
  • I vacuum mine on a low setting, cost an absolute bloody fortune (not far off 1k:eek: ) and am not supposed to vac it but !!!!!! we couldn't go out of the house in the end without a trail of Ghost Poo (love that description :rotfl: ) packing it's bag and coming with us. I don't know the solution is I'm afraid, but good post, hopefully some woolly carpet expert will come along soon:D

Hoover it! You may deplete the pile somewhat, but that's what the ghost poo is anyway - loose fibres. Is this going to drive you so mad that you decide to get rid of the rug? In that case what have you got to lose by hoovering it a bit?

Your instructions said do not hoover "for some time" - it's a fortnight past Christmas now. If it's being walked on you are going to have to hoover it at some point anyway

I confess I don't have one of this type of rug - but I do have a large permanently shedding dog, so I know how irritating the fluff can be

Pollybear: There is a backing of some sort that you can buy (got mine from Ikea). Just put it down where the rug was going and laid the rug on top - that was when I had fitted carpet. Must be something out there if you want to stop a rug 'walking' over laminate.

Yes Ikea doa rug stopping stuff you put down under it, so do a lot of £1 shops etc, I have them under the bath matts and rugs.

Wool rugs should stop shedding 'Ghost Poo' (made me laugh too :rotfl: ) in time, I would vacuum it but with the brush on the vacuum switched off as that'll ruin it. Could sweep with soft brush or beat it (then the 'Ghost Poo' will just go in the garden)
One day I might be more organised...........
