Buying a Used Car

Hi Everyone,

I have spent rather a lot of money on my 52 reg Ford Fiesta over the past two years, removing a rust spot from the roof, 2 new power steering columns, and resetting the computer system as I got intermittent EAC failures. This is all after only buying it 3 years ago.
I have taken it into my local Evans Halshaw recently as I had an engine failure and I wanted to get it checked out. They advised that it needed a new computer system which would cost about £1000 including labour.
After the amount of money I have spent on it recently I just want to get rid of it so am looking at trading it in.

Since Evans Halshaw looked at my car a few weeks ago I have not had any EAC failures or engine problems and am aware that some Ford Fiestas never seem to get rid of the EAC and engine failures whatever is spent on them so don't want to waste the money for nothing.

After shopping around I think that it is quite possible that the car that I want to buy could be from Evans Halshaw as well but I am worried that if I take my car to trade in, they will have all the details on their system and offer me £1000 less so they can replace the computer (even though I have had no issues since it last went in)
Will they still have my car details on file, if they do, do you think all other Evans Halshaw dealers will have access to it, is it worth me just trading it in at another branch.

I know this is all rather cheeky but I want to get the best I can for my car so I can get a new one and considering the problems with my car (which was used from a dealership when I got it) all started within a few months of me buying it, I think the person who had my car before me did the same thing and sold it instead of fixing it.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

They will want you to confirm there is nothing wrong with the car of which you aware and ask you to sign to the effect. If they dont realise at the time and then cross check on their computer you would be at risk of comebacks.

I would be much more tempted to get rid of it into auction or ebay, but even with ebay you may face comebacks if you dont mention the problem. Unfortuantly you have a duff car which will be worth a lot less than if it wasnt. Trying to pass the problem onto someone else is a little unfair - even if it is a car dealer.
