DVLA Vehicle Check - vehicle not showing?

My parents have just bought a used car from a private seller and I know they should've HPI'd, but they didn't! Schoolboy/girl error!

I've entered the reg and make onto DVLA's Vehicle Enquiry online Service only to be told; Vehicle details could not be found !

They've got lots of paperwork, new keepers supplement, service history old MOT's, 6 months tax, signed and dated receipt etc.

Just weird that it's in daily use and the cops haven't pulled them over..?

  • It could have had a private plate and been re-registered . It takes the DVLA computer some time to catch up with this

Happened to a friend with a bike he bought. Turns out it had been taken to Ireland for a bit then brough back to UK so it had "dropped off the system" according to the copper who did pull us over for it, then made us follow him to the station to determine what had happened.

Phone the DVLA and let them sort it out. If it was a plate change the details of the car that it been transferred to at least would come up.

Yes they do check the DVLA, that is where they get registration details from.

Could have been an Import OR (what everyone seems to have missed) it could have been an ex-Police vehicle.
