I have an old cersanit washbasin. The waste is broken and the pop up plug no longer has a plug, which means there is nothing to stop things falling down the wastepipe. The diameter of the waste pipe is not usual (35mm as near as I can measure it and I have done so very carefully) so a plastic plug won't work.., I haven't been able to find one to fit.
I have been told the pipe where the pop up plug should fit is moulded into the sink and can't be removed, which means I can't fit a new waste kit, this is what I'd like to do.
Is this true? There are three 'holes' in the pipe and I am wondering if they are meant to aid removal (see photos)

I am perfectly happy with the basin and cabinet and would rather not have to replace the whole thing if there is a way to avoid it.
Many thanks for any help.

The 3 holes will be where any water which goes down the sink overflow escapes down the drain.
Appears from the pic that there's no nut to unscrew, so ..
Undo the pop-up lever from the lower part. wedge a big screwdriver or something in one of the holes in the top part to stop it turning and try unscrewing the two parts. Looks like there's some sealant, so may need a bit of brute force.
Replace with a slotted basin waste outlet from your local DIY. (about a fiver including plug)
May need a new trap and something to connect it to existing waste pipe.
Remove the push/ pull rod from the basin once its detached from the levers below the sink . . .0 -
Many thanks for this.
Removed the broken pipe (whatever its called). I was a bit worried if I was too tough trying to remove the pipe I'd break the basin but it popped out quite easily thanks to your advice. Paid £8.99 on ebay for a popup plug and rod system - u've saved me the cost of a new basin and vanity unit so I can probably now redo the bathroom (by reusing the toilet and basin) for £200.
And I'm learning about plumbing lol, never a bad thing. I can do most DIY things but always avoided messing with plumbing lol.0
