Slow down when downloading :-/

For the last few days when ever i download in firefox, at about 90% depending on the file, my pc goes really laggy! I cant click or do anything bar move the mouse about, which is all jerky 
I just tested it in IE, and it does the same thing! Anyone got an idea whats doing it?

Could it be your hard drive is fragmented? If so I would recommend using AusLogic Disk Defragmenter as it is free and so much quicker than the one that comes with Windows.

Done a thorough virus scan and nothing found. Also cleared system restore and got 8gig back! :j but its still doing it! I use diskeeper so its always defragging. Now going to try CCleaner, will let you know if it helps...0

When it is close to the end of dloading the file, it could be that this is when the program is putting all the bits that it had downloaded together (it stores it in temp files till completely dloaded.
So it looks like it certainly is hard disk related. At the point is slows down, have a loot at Task Manager (Ctrl Alt Delete to bring it up) and look at Performance to check it isnt your processor going full pelt. If it is look in Processes tab to see what is running so hard.0
