As i have an account with Halifax, and as these are now the same, does that mean i will still need to take in ID to open an account, or will they just link to the ID the halifax has?

Halifax and Lloyds TSB may be owned by Lloyds Banking Group, but they are run as separate banks.
They are, effectively, in competition with each other.
Having a Halifax account will not automatically allow you to be treated as an existing customer of Lloyds TSB.
Take some ID!0 -
When I tried to open a second bank account with Abbey a couple of years ago, they still required the full set of ID even though I already had a long-standing account with them..... so be prepared to have to0

...because they had never seen your ID to the current requirements on your old long standing account which you opened long ago.0 -

I'm a long standing customer of Lloyds, I opened an incentive saver a couple of months ago required ID in branch etc...
Last week I opened up a second current account using online banking, guess what... They wanted to see ID again.
I don't think there is any pattern to it all. It seems to be random.0 -
Are you on the electoral roll? Can I find out my credit score? You do not have a single credit score or rating. Different organisations take different information into account when working out your credit score and may have different scores for different products. (Kindly from Experian)0

Yes I am, as I say there is no pattern.0

Do they actually input any details of the ID or are they just using it to make sure it is you in front of them?0

Last time I took ID into the branch (driving license and passport) they had problems updating my profile with details of the ID, I eventually got it sorted in the end or so I thought, but had to re-apply for the account on the phone as they lost the original application!!! Still they gave me £20 for all the trouble ;-)
This last time, I just went into the branch and got the manager to sign photocopies to say he had seen the original and then I posted these off in the post. Still awaiting this account to appear online but I only sent them off on Thursday in a second class prepaid envelope.0 -
But the last coup[le of times I have opened new accounts the banks appear to have been able to do online identity checking, and I haven't had to send any paper work. I have been in the house 4 years, have had several CRB checks and so on, and it has all been virtually instant.0
