Surely you kept the paperwork from the DCA?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • They never sent anything further on, i arranged the repayment by phone as i responded to a text they sent in order to get hold of me :-(

I find it amazing that you paid a bill based on a text message!
In that case, how do you know you have overpaid?
Remember that the DCA will have added their costs to the original debt.

  • Despite my naivety, during the time my partner had left me with a young child and I was aware the debt existed on a former property. My sole concern was paying the debt off and with a reference of BGRT.... I assumed I was paying the debt off with British Gas directly not to a collections agency :-(
  • :(:(Am i really the only person who they have done this kind of thing too??!!!:(:(

It seems very unlikely that they wouldn't know who they'd sold a debt to. I'd suggest you put in a written complaint / request for info & also ensure that you haven't simply been scammed here.
