Surely you kept the paperwork from the DCA?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

They never sent anything further on, i arranged the repayment by phone as i responded to a text they sent in order to get hold of me :-(0

I find it amazing that you paid a bill based on a text message!
In that case, how do you know you have overpaid?
Remember that the DCA will have added their costs to the original debt.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Despite my naivety, during the time my partner had left me with a young child and I was aware the debt existed on a former property. My sole concern was paying the debt off and with a reference of BGRT.... I assumed I was paying the debt off with British Gas directly not to a collections agency :-(0

It seems very unlikely that they wouldn't know who they'd sold a debt to. I'd suggest you put in a written complaint / request for info & also ensure that you haven't simply been scammed here.0
