Next best insect repellent to Skin So Soft??

After being let down by Avon, who say I ordered too EARLY to have my ordered delivered before my holiday (grrrr!), I am left with no Skin So Soft for our holiday to Turkey.

What else can anyone recommend we use (that we can get hold of easily and that will work?!)

Thank you very much in advance.

No time to buy any off Ebay before you go away...plenty Avon reps selling on there.

You could try the Go Bug guard bands. We bought some for a trip to Scotland, though never ended up using them so can't say how effective they are. We did use the Avon stuff which worked a treat.

I always use the Jungle formula Tropical.
  • Just get the Boots mozzie repellent, the one in the grey bottle. Thats all you need, plenty of Deet and it will keep the mozzies at bay all night.

We usually buy a product called Sinkov whilst in Turkey, all the supermarkets sell it, last year it was around a £1 a bottle

Works for us, clear liquid doesn't stain clothing etc.

  • Hi. Used to be in Forces and in Kenya we used Jungle Formula. I now go to SE Asia every year, well almost lol, and have stopped using it as it really does melt plastic. Not good for ladies carrying bags as it rubs the colour onto the skin and leaves blemishes. I now use Autan. Last bought it from Home Bargains for a few pounds. It is in a yellow spray thingy. Never once been bitten in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia or Bali. Best of all though is that it sprays on like a powder and smells lovely. The wife used it with me and never got bitten, but in Bali on the last night she never used it and was bitten 5 times. Fantastic product, and for me so much better than Jun For.

Just in case people are reading this and thinking that Avon Skin So Soft is an insect repellent.....it isn't.

There is plenty of anecdotal evidence on the internet that it might work but you will not find lab testing to back this up (except for the version sold in the USA which did include IR3535 as an insect repellent active).

I feel the need to post this as advocating the use of Avon Skin So Soft as a repellent could be extremely dangerous advice in certain parts of the world.
