    What's your credit history like?
Do you have a 3 year consistent address history, and been on the electoral roll for each address?
Will you be paying a regular income into your account?

If the answer to any of the above questions is a negative then you probably won't be able to get anything other than a cash account with a Visa/Electron debit card - i.e. normal account with no credit/lending facilities.

Any bank like Halifax and Barclays will be able to give you a cash account as long as they can prove who you are and that you have not been convicted of fraud or anything like that in the past - if they say no then there is a serious, underlying issue that needs addressing by yourself...

Barclays accepted me and I thought I was a poor credit risk. Don't apply for overdrafts. Get a personal account first then get the business one especially if you are a sole trader.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Have a look at the Natwest Foundation Account its intended to act almost as a "basic" bank account for businesses and because it doesnt offer any lending facilities is often available to those with poor credit.
  • What reason did they give for declining you?
Before you ask, yes, I work for a bank, but no, I didn't get a bonus!
