Can somebody point me in the right direction with this problem.I've just payed for and received a "new, boxed set dvd" which has turned out to be a copied dvd in a cardboard sleeve!! I wont name and shame the seller just yet,but should I contact the seller and ask for a refund or should I report it to Ebay?

You should report them for sure, selling a copy is just not right, also ask for a refund. When it comes to dvd box sets ONLY the real thing will do.0 -
Not sure what the expert ebayers will tell you, but this same thing happened to me with a cd recently.
After some deliberation, I decided to first email the seller and pointed out that I had been sent a copy which to my understanding was against ebay rules and stated that I would like my money refunded. The seller came back very apologetic and said it was one of her daughter's cds that she was selling for her and she hadn't realised it was a copy!
She refunded the money immediately, no problem and told me to keep the copy. I didn't take it any further as I'd got my money back. Didn't leave any feedback as didn't want a retaliatory neg or neutral. She had a 100% feedback score and didn't usually sell cds, so I gave her story the benefit of the doubt.
I would go down that route again before reporting to ebay simply because it is likely to get a more immediate result and there's a fair chance of your money back. Ebay don't have a reputation for being particularly helpful when buyers run into problems.
From the feedback, can you tell if the seller makes a habit of selling stuff like this, or is it a one off? For a serial offender I would probably take a different stance and would report to ebay, but would still contact them myself in the first instance just to try and get my money back quicker.0 -
what you should do is inform tradng standards and F.A.C.T. E-bay would have to take a dim view of this as wellIf you can't say something nice - SHUT UP

I'd do what purplepatch suggested. It would only be if someone was uncooperative, or appeared to be in business deliberately selling copied CDs that I would report them. Your main concern, I should think, is to get your money back? :cool:I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

I've taken to asking if its an original before I bid/buy and informing the seller at the same time that should I receive a pirate copy then they will be reported to ebay and FACT - seems to sort the genuine sellers out from the crooks.Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Why does anyone think EBAY cares!!!!!
At the moment you can bid for nigh on the whole CINEMA TOP TEN!
You would have to be pretty dum to believe that they are all original dvd's
yet ebay don't question this?Click COLOR=Red]HERE[/COLOR to participate in my latest finger exercise program!!0 -

how did you pay....?
if you paid by paypal then raise a dispute,
i recently bought a cd from someone in the US and paid by payapl, when i received it, albeit played fine, the cd cover and picture on the disk didnt look right, only when i looked at the barcode did i realise it was a copy.
I contacted the seller and raised a dispute via paypal
i also checked out his other items for sale,..... they all looked a bit rough.....
i did email some of the people who had bought from him, asking whether they thought there purchases where fakes as well...
I ended up with a full refund from the seller, plus the postal costs to retrun the item to him..... I also recieved a refund from paypal..... that will teach the fraudster.......smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

people can get away with selling fake dvds`. yet genuine sellers are threatened with suspension if they relist a genuine dvd after it was removed by VERO...gggrrr.
apart from complaining to ebay who don`t seem to do anything..anybody got any ideas???
ebay seem to be such a large corporation unable to deal with such matter. but really they are aiding and abetting fraud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they should be held accountable surely.0
