The leaving you hanging thread

from reading everyone else' s posts and from my own experience
all be it only since beginning of July and since that time ive applied for over 30 jobs

more and more people are sending in cv's to agency's and employers and not getting even a single word back.

I myself have applied to quite a few on line agency's/ looked on direct gov job search

and I would say at least 9 out of 10 don't even acknowledge receipt of the email and even the follow ups i make are getting ignored

whats other peoples take on this is anyone else finding the same ?
OR is it just me

No, not just you, I'm finding exactly the same too.
I could have written that post. I've been looking for the same length of time and applied for approx 30 jobs. All of them listed on a table on my desktop so I don't lose track! I know many folk have been looking for months, if not longer....doesn't bode well :(

I should have done that, bit late now though,

2 interviews ive had where teh interviewer has said they would phone me to let me know either way so i was thinking oh they will call me but i was wrong, first interview i called up twice asking if there was news and was told nothing had been decided yet and second interview i called in yesterday and she says she forgot to call me so why make a promise then.

That's what I've done this time round. I've got them all in a table on Word and I mark what correspondence I've had, etc. etc.

I really wish more would just put the "if you haven't heard in 4 weeks then you're unsuccessful" as at least that way I have a timescale to know by! I applied for quite a few positions back in early July and while some have got back to me, I'm still waiting on a few with no response whatsoever :(
  • I'm fed up to the back teeth with agencies. I ring up, they say email your CV so I email it, hear nothing, ring them, they say they can't find the CV so I sent it again and on it goes. This even happens with the agencies I hand deliver my CV to so I think they all go in the bin.

I guess I've just been lucky with interviewers as all the interviews I've had, they have let me know, even if it takes some of them a long time.

Yep in the same boat and could have written the same post. It makes me so frustrated that companies can't send out a 'thanks but no thanks' email to everyone who wasn't successful. Especially with the hand written application forms, it takes me two hours to fill in all your boxes but it would only take 2mins to write an email for me and everyone else who applied.

Saying that, ive just received the fastest every rejection email for a job I applied for last night. 20 hours between sending off and receiving.

Not sure if I should be pleased to have received something or gutted I didn't get a job that im more than qualified to do and would do well.

Even some of the online forms take sometimes over an hour or more
to complete when they go into pages and pages long asking for full work history , education etc , and you try your hardest to included every thing as to why /what /where and when you want the job

a simple thanks but no thanks email back wouldn't hurt would it !

no it wouldnt hurt, a phone call takes less time than an email especially when a phone call is promised and it never happens now thats rude.

I do understand your frustration though

I've found the online applications very long and tedious too. Some are timed aptitude tests or multiple choice personality tests. As well as all the detail of you, your employment history and all the rest etc.

However, it might be to weed out those who are not really dedicated to the application process. At least it doesn't cost you anything except your time and patience!
  • I find that alot of jobs I apply for are getting the standard email from agancies stating 'you've been unsuccessful this time'. I have lost faith in alot of jobs say advertised on Reed as I get the same response almost instant. Saying that alot do not reply. I guess they are fishing for CVs and that is the frustrating part in it all.

Good luck everyone! there are so many people looking for work I think emplyers can be more picky compared to what they were 2-3 years ago.
