Hi, I recently receved an electricity bill from powergen for my previouse house (rented). WhenI lived there I contacted them several times trying to get a bill sent out but they denied the house had an account with them. Now theyve got their act together and sent me a bill for £380. I guess i should have saved some money for this but didnt think theyd work everything out!
Is there anything I can do to get it reduced and make small monthly payments?
cheers

Firstly check the bill is for the correct dates you lived in the property. Also check they haven't backdated charges for more than two years, as they are no longer allowed to do this if they are at fault.
It is worth sending in a written complaint. It is unlikely you will get a substantial reduction but they will probably give you a goodwill gesture. It also wouldn't be unreasonable for you to offer to pay it off over the same timeframe as the debt was accumulated, ie if it is for 18 months they should give you 18 months to pay it - although they probably wouldn't let you have that long unless you kick up a really big stink.0 -
I have just changed from them to another company. It took me about 6 attempts for them to get the figures for kilowat usage for my gas and electricity correct.I find i only got sense from a supervisor.0

I had exactly the same happen with npower and my gas bill. I wrote to complain and got a biggish discount and was able to pay off the balance over 24 months as this is how long it took them to sort it out.
I have to add that I did try about 5 times over the 2 years to sort it out and each time was told that they were not my gas supplier and then suddenly they accepted that they were.
I would write to complain and hope that they apply some discount.
Good luck
:heartpuls CG :heartpulsEver wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0
