Films on an SD card

I've just purchased a PDA that accepts SD cards up to a maximum of 512mb. It came loaded with Windows Media Player. I'd like to know if it will be possible to watch movies on this? Could I compress a file to fit on a 512mb card? Is it possible to put a DVD (that you own) and copy it to an SD card? sort of like ripping a CD?

I've got a full length movie on the 512mb card in my phone.. it currently occupies about 110mb of that at 320x200. Have a look at the program called SUPER to recompress films.

If it were a DVD you produced yourself like a wedding dvd (not a commercial one), then yes, you can use an application called AutoGK. It'll allow you to set the filesize.

We can't talk about ripping commerical dvd's on here as it involves breaking encryption (which is illegal). Best thing is to head over to https://www.doom9.org. They have plenty of guides and aren't scared of discussing such things.

Yes I have a 2 gig sd in my Mio 168 pda and have tom tom running of it and films tv episodes eg.csi.house.bones.
Don't use media player though use core "I think its called"

Certainly. I use a program called Clove DVD Mobile to do this - not free but very cheap. Various formats already built in. Free 21 day download, just google slysoft.

Would also recommend Slysoft use most of their products, AnyDVD, Clone DVD Mobile & Clone DVD 2 all work a treat. Have ripped DVD's to my Archos 504 Player and tried it on my MDA Vario II, yet to try it on my Sons PSP but support is there, and as say they are only cheap with frequent free upgrades.
