Thanks to all posters, i've found this an interesting thread.
I'm sure we all agree that care must be taken when applying to go on some training courses, even though they seem to offer a well paid career in the future.
The biggest worry i have after reading the previous 21 posts is that a third of them have been made by 'newies'.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

I'd avoid wasting your money, to be honest. It's a crowded market, and as pointed out above, several times, there's a lot of dodgy courses out there, all promising "Make £'000's a week!"
Yes, you too can pay out thousands to earn a line of zeros, week after week! I'm a locksmith, and a pretty good one. But I'm not alone in not making a fortune. Better locksmiths than me have given it up entirely, as the hoards of 2 day trainees slash prices to get work that they cannot do properly, undercutting those who, you know, care about fitting a decent quality lock properly, have public liability insurance, pay tax, do accounts, work out a van or shop, do on-going skills training, and can be found again if something goes wrong...
As regards standards, there are some coming along soon - I should know, I helped write them! Any training course which doesn't adhere to the new National Occupational Standards for Locksmithing should be avoided.
My advice if you *must* go ahead? Contact the Master Locksmiths Association.0 -
Its a shame really that this kind of industry has become saturated... to death.
90% of the locksmiths out there now are newly trained part timers looking for a quick buck.
The masters of the trade have suffered and thus thrown in the towel.
Its a real shame that true professionals are being forced out, over all trades not just locksmithing.
Its hard enough as it is to find one you trust without diluting in a sea of inexperienced handymen.
Just my opinion.
Its a highly competitive world i guess.
Dont waste any money on a locksmith course.
