Don't clear your cookies and history.
I can't get into my account online because of that.
I have to phone them up.

Cookies hold information on your computer. If you said to remember your user ID and/or password for this site that would create a cookie, if you delete the cookie then the information needs to be put back in afresh. If you dont have the logon details then there is an issue.
Not sure if this was the reason in your case, but if something is as important as bank access details, it should not be on a cookie anyway that is a massive security risk.0 -

Obviously.
It is nothing to do with the above.
It is Tesco's crappy system. Imagine devising a system that tied your account to a specific computer.
I've had enough of Tesco banking.
I transferred enough money into the account so that there was an exact multiple of £20 then went to a cash machine and withdrew the lot.
Anyone want a card reader?0 -

Hmm... Tesco haven't admitted it but they seem to identify the "regular" pc by a cookie or other means susceptable to "houskeeping".
After "cleaning" (surely a prundent customer activity) the pc is no longer recognised as the "regular" pc.
This is one of the more inept pieces of system design I have come across. And p*ss poor testing.0 -

Exactly.
They had something similar years ago so I stopped using that account, then they changed it so any computer would be OK then they started with the card reader which was bearable but now it just takes the !!!! and the interest rate is crap as well.0 -

A&L had such a system for years.....
If you used a different computer or cleared your cookies then the logon sequence went off into a different screens and you had to answer some additional security questions before you could get into your account.
I don't know what happened if you went for using your normal computer to using say your laptop once and then back to your normal computer - whether it knew that you had reverted back - I suspect not - I'd suspect it was just comparing to the "last used computer"
A credit card company uses the same system.
The Cookie does not store any account related info in it.0 -
I was going to send a letter closing the account but why should I waste a stamp on them.
Same with a phone call.
Too much hassle for .75% interest.
I get more money from my Halifax account.0 -

These systems uses Flash cookies sometime called LSO cookies
Not normal cookies
You may not be clearing out the LSO cookies when you "clear out your cookies" - it depends on what you are using to clear the cookies - and if a browser which one and what version if IE.0
