Why can't I find any flights to Orlando? Am I too late/early?

Looking for flights to Orlando for next August (2012) and am struggling to find any. Have used as wide possible choices on the various flight sites-would prefer flying from Newcastle but have looked at Leeds/Bradford and All London and can't find any flights unless we only go for 14 days, (even then only 1 flight appears) we want 21 days. We have also got flexibility on dates as long as it is within the school hols. Have the flights all been sold already or have they not yet been released??

scheduled flights are released around 11 months in advance so you may be a little early
  • You can book scheduled flights 330days before your RETURN trip. So if you are going for 21 days in August you should start looking in September.

Package holidays are available now as are fly drives. I also think the charter airlines(Monarch, Thomson, Thomas Cook) that fly into Sanford are taking flight only bookings now. You will need to look at the individual sites though as these don't usually appear on the comparisons.
  • The only airline flying to Orlando (Sanford) from Newcastle is Thomson. Their holidays were released mid April and the flights at the beginning of May. The prices are really high as they have the monopoly in this area. We are going in May 2012 and have paid £4800 for four adults, including a 4 bed villa at Windsor Hills and mid size car with full gold insurance. The flight only option was almost £900 each plus cost of luggage. Keep checking as the prices vary on an almost daily basis.

look at the Virgin Holidays website for flights from either manchester or Glasgow. As shellylou states, flights are normally released about 11 months in advance with scheduled flights, however Virgin Holidays know that thay are going to get an allocation of flight seats for their holidays, and therefore can show them on their system earlier (we have already quoted flights / prices for December 2012). If it's just flight only, use the flydrive section, and just book the basic car for the minimum duration (usually 7 days), and select no insurance. Alternatively, if you will be needing a car, amend the car details appropriately. From what i remember, you cannot book flights on virgin holidays website as flight only, so use the fly drive option. Other benefit is that you can pay a deposit, where by booking a normal schedule flight often means paying in full at the time.

A lot of Virgins flights may already be full with the allocation already - we tried for April 12 and could only get from 8 April onwards by then so have to take the kids out of school for a week instead. This was back in March 11. A lot of the peak dates do get booked up early because flight only prices are so expensive these days.

We took the chance and booked a fly drive from Gatwick to Orlando (becauselast time it was cheaper than booking the flight only) fly drive price was £2800 for the 4 of us with platinum insurance and an upgrade to a convertible car, when flight prices were released they were £734 each - so it was more expensive to book flight only.
