Hi
We moved into our 3-storey terraced house with 4 beds in september 06 and last night decided to check our gas meter reading, within 3 months the meter has increased by 335 units which we worked out to be about 10500 kwh. Is that right!!??? We thought we'd been really careful - the heating isn't on too much, we spend a lot of time in fleeces and blanklets when its cold. Gas is used for the CH system which is a combi boiler only a couple of years old, and also a gas cooker only used on a night for tea. Is there any way this can be a mistake of some kind? We've worked out that its costing about £350 for tha last quarter just for gas, which is incredible, in our last house we never used anywhere near that and our habits haven't changed. Can anyone give any advice!!

This is the about the same as last years usage. It is just the cost of gas has gone up.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

The figures are correct if you have an old imperial meter but you may have a metric meter which would mean only a third of the usage which sounds about right for your home and usage. Have a look on your meter to see if the units refer to feet or metres.0

Yes it could very probably be a mistake as you are using a calculation for an old Imperial meter - which measures in cubic feet. The majority of meters now fitted are metric meters which measure in cubic meters.
To check look at the meter and see if it has M3(metric) or Cu Ft (Imperial)
If it is meteric your calculation is 2.86 times too high. Just measure the units by approx 11.20
