Wireless router advise (which one?)

I am looking to buy a new wireless router for my house network. I have a NTL modem so I am just looking for a wireless router not a modem. I know there is lots out there but I am looking for one that will allow two USB printers to run from it (so it has to be a print server as well). Also I live in an old house with very thick sandstone walls so i am looking for one that has a decent range.
Any ideas anyone?

I wouldnt necessarily rule out a wireless router/modem. Is your NTL modem a USB one?
If it is, then you would only be able to get onto the Internet by sharing the Internet connection via the PC that the modem was plugged into.
NTL modems, like the BT ones, are the cheapest of the cheap. It wont cost that much more to get the modem in the same unit, the newer ones nowadays are much more efficient. I have seen people who have been able to increase their Internet connection sleed (on ADSL Max) by installing a newer modem.
I very much doubt you will get one that has TWO printer servers however if you plug one printer into the USB on one PC you can share that on the Network as well.0 -
Cheers for that as that is a good idea. So I should look for a DSL wireless modem/router as apposed to an ADSL one.
I wasn't holding my breath for one that had two printer ports but it would have been nice. At present I have a PC just acting as a print server as you suggested but i am trying to do away with it as i need the space. i could always just hook one up to the router and have a wireless print server for the other I suppose. Means I could move the colour printer right out the way since i dont use it much.
Any suggestions on a good cable modem then? One with a strong signal?0 -

Care to show us an example! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I have had a look and I must admit I am struggling to find a wireless cable modem that replaces the NTL one. Is there such a thing?0

Not that I'm aware of. It's usual to keep the supplied cable modem or TV decoder box and then connect to the router using an Ethernet cable. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Yeh that's what I thought.

IMHO I would go for a wireless ADSL router as in my experience modems act slower as they are pwered by the comuters whereas routers have their own power source. I'm considering this one http://www.adslnation.com/phpapps/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=1040

Read post #1. The OP has cable so an ADSL modem is useless! Cable modems are not powered by the computer.

adsl routers (which have a modem) are for BT lines, cable/dsl for cable.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Okay i think I will sort it by going for a Linksys wireless router and just connect my printers with a Netgear wireless print server.
One thing I was considering was a RangeMax™ 240 wireless router which uses MIMO technology. I take it my laptops built in wireless will not use MIMO or will it?
