your fav recipe for TASTY soups suitable for Detox

Options
I'm relatively experienced at soupmaking but usually I use a stock cube as well as tinned tomatoes and my veggies, I'm trying to avoid using the stock cubes as I am seriously in need of a detox. The reason being is that I've been eating too much crap lately along with all my homemade baking it's a struggle to get my boots on in the morning my stomach is so fat! I've also been ill since the end of November, I eventually decided that I needed antibiotics but I'm still feeling crappy even after the course has ended :(

So...my plan is to do a basic detox and get lots of vitamins/minerals into me. I start for real on Monday but I am doing a pre-detox where you reduce your intake of sugar, caffeine etc in preperation!

My soup today is nice and very healthy but pretty tasteless. I used ground pepper and lots of herbs but it seems quite bland

Any ideas? I'm happy to use pretty much any veg in soups and I have lots of different herbs and spices. I've also got lots of beans/legumes and nuts. I have a slowcooker but I can also do a pan on the hob.

What is your favourite tasty recipe?

I was going to say the same thing. I now use this as my vegetable stock and it makes no difference except its more healthier and less salt!

If you want to avoid bland then I would be looking at adding spices rather than herbs - in particular curry spices which go very well with butternut squash, parsnips, etc. And as you name tomatoes as one of your basic ingredients, how about chili or smoked paprika? I'm not talking about adding enough to make things "hot" - just enough to lift the flavour a bit.

Peopl quite often try to cut back on salting food when they detox/eat healthily. If you are used to salt you may need to add something like spices to boost flavour in the way in which salt does.

I somtimes make a Weightwatchers type soup with a tin of chopped tomatoes, some carrots, cabbage, onion and any other veg you have lying around. Spice it up with some garlic, salt, pepper etc.

  • Why not buy a chicken and use the carcass to make your own tasty stock. HM chicken stock is particulary good for making soup when you've been under the weather as all the goodness in it should help build up your strength.
  • Mmmm - I agree with Organic Wanabe. I bought a small chicken on Tuesday and will have 9 meals (including soup)! I either add loads of seasonal veg and some herbs and seasoning to the stock for a lovely hearty winter soup, or chilli, lemongrass, lime juice, thai fish sauce etc - then add back some shredded chicken and noodles if you are extra hungry. Stir in coriander and slurp away.

  • Sorry forgot this one - I'm sure Nigella does a lovely soup in her 'Temple Foods' section of 'Nigella Bites'.
(I lent this to someone months ago - and have forgotten who!)

Another Marigold user here, I was shocked to see my stock cubes had MSG in them, so I started using the buillion. It's about £1.50 in Tesco's, but it comes as a powder not a cube so you can use a lot or a little. I find a little bit of curry powder nice to flavour a HM veg soup.
