I have just been browsing these pages and see most of us don't want to waste anything! I make doggy duvets and sell them for an assistance charity.
if anything that comes my way is too too scruffy it either goes to the local dog rescue for bedding ..or even scraps of fabric, however small get put in a bag for the local hospice shop. Please before you throw away scruffy shoes, bags, really tatty clothes do see if a local charity shop would like them!! Depending on the weight I think they get about £5 per bag, and it doesn't go to landfill. It's a win win situation

It's been said before, and it should be self-evident, but three requests:

    1. make sure the shop can accept rags before you donate them.
    2. make sure the bags are labelled as rags before you donate them.
    3. make sure everything in the bags is clean and safe before you donate them ...

I'm sure you wouldn't dream of doing anything else!

yep, forgot to say that I always label the bags clearly as rags, however the contents are not always pristine- that's why they are rags and not suitable for re sale! For instance a Next wool coat came my way but it was smothered in cat hair which refused to come off- it went in the rag bag!
My two local shops have different wishes: one says put everything in the bags, the other says please separate fabrics from shoes etc and bag up in different bags. All much better than going to landfill.

I volunteer in a shop, the amount we get paid for rags has just increased so its probably a bit more than £5 a bag now and theres a separate price for shoes/bags/belts etc but cant remember what that is. I emptied the contents of my 11 year olds underwear drawer the other day as she's had new socks etc and donated 3 full carrier bags of pants, socks and vests to the CS I volunteer in.
