Recommendations for obtaining best price for 1.5 year old car..

I've currently got a 1.5 year old Golf S 1.4Tsi with a few extras.I have to sell it as am likely to be moving abroad and can't unfortunately take it with me.
I've spent a few quid on doing up the inside(covered seats etc) so its looks in pretty good nick.

I've got a couple of months to sort this out so any helpful suggestions would be great...

That might limit your market and perhaps it would be better to advertise on Pistonheads or other more specialist site. If you advertise on Autotrader etc you could anly really ask the normal going rate for the car. If you tried to get more for it because of the changes made to the interior, it would just be at the bottom of peoples searchs, people wouldn't look past the higher price.

Could you remove the mods, sell the car as standard and the parts separately on ebay?

1.5 year old car and you put covers on the seats to tidy it up?

Problems with modifications are not everyones taste will be the same as yours, Also the last thing
most people want to do these days are get an insurance quote on a modified car.
Insurance is dear enough without paying extra for some tacky seat covers.

I would think whats under those covers, What are you hiding.

It's going to depend what you mean by seat covers really - if you had leather retrimmed in a different material that isn't garish or had some leather seats put in there then I don't see that being an issue.

Likewise if it's literally "covers" then take them off. I think your biggest issue will actually be that for a 1 1/2 yr old vw alot of private buyers won't look outside of vw to buy the car which will limit your market. In any case the best places to try for a private sale are autotrader, pistonheads and ebay. Try ringing round some of the local traders advertising "prestige" cars, alot of these garages will buy your car from you - but don't expect anything more than (if you can even get) trade value.

Take a look on the completed listings on ebay for similar type vehicles (what people ACTUALLY paid for the cars) and look at what people are advertising their 1.5 year old Golf for. If you want to sell your Golf in a short time then pitch your price accordingly.

I wouldnt advertise it for what you THINK its worth and this will bare little or no relevence to what folk will actually pay for it. Car market is slow at best.

If it has any finance or HP secured on the car, this will need to be sorted at the point of sale and the buyer made aware.

    Good luck !

Is an 18 month old Golf really the sort of car that is sold regularly enough on Ebay to give any meaningful information?

    Genuine question BTW.

It's the last place I'd look for a nearly new car.

    Don't ask here. Genuinely;)

Ask the local vdub trader, ask on autotrader, put it on pistonheads.

Do not go the ebay route for that value car, and don't accept paypal wherever you end up.

18mth old vdubs will find there price, you just need to find a reliable buyer or "outlet"
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
