isle of man ferry complaint

in june this year i booked 3 tickets for 3 cars and 6 adults to go to the isle of man next may with aferry.com, i could not believe the toal cost of this was £24 per car/couple at the time so i phoned the company and it was confirmed that the price was correct, i then recieved 3 separate emails for the bookings which detailed the time dates, car reg numbers and names of people travelling and also the price.

great i thought

then came another email 2 weeks later informing me that this was only a deposit for the bookings???? this was not stated at the time of booking or on the phone or more importantly on the confirmation email, so i contacted the company by email and informed them that this was against the terms i had booked under, they replied stating that they would look into the matter and i would get a reply in 28 working days time, well today is day 29, i have had no such reply, so after trying to contact them today i have been told that any managers that can deal with this are in a meeting and will contact me by telephone today.

in this email it states that any cancellations will be charged at £25 per booking, so that would mean that i would owe them another £3 for the booking!!! surely due to lack of proper information and still not stating in this follow up email what the total price of the ferry crossing is going to be, they cannot do this?

i should also add that since this, aferry have removed the page from the web site and you can no longer either see the original page , which i had saved, or you cannot make a booking at all from liverpool to douglas.

can someone give me any advise as to how to handle this if and when i eventually get this return phone call please.

  • wow!!!!! well they havent said anything to me about the price they think im going to be paying seeing as they think i have paid a deposit!!! i cant afford that much at all.

never mind the extra for the other car

anyway back to the point what can they do or what can we do seeing as they sold us the tickets and we bought them with the price of £24 per car/couple? as i said at the time of buying them there was no mention of it being a deposit only price, and they only brought that up 2 weeks later with a follow up email and not ont he conformation email.

oh we arent going to watch the tt race as we travel back before the racing starts

I could understand a £25 fare on a Channel crossing but £25 for a Steam Packet crossing is absurd! I've gone to Douglas a few times off peak and the fare has never been below £250 and normally is £300+.

  • yes i understand that hence why i phoned the company to confirm the screen price, which they did, in fact the screen price was a couple of quid cheaper than quoted over the phone,

oh well as they say a fool and his money are soon parted, to cancell it would cost me £25 per car, and there isnt a cat in hells chance im paying them any more money. so i better look elsewhere for next years holidays then, unless someone has a better way of making them honour the agreement

If there was no mention of it being a deposit, then I would insist they give you a full refund with no cancellation charge.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Bearing in mind the huge difference in price, whether your right or not I doubt there is anything you can do to be honest.

You should focus your efforts on getting them to refund you in FULL, non of this cancellation fee rubbish!

ok and bear in mind i brought this to your attn on here, just how would you suggest that i go about making sure that i get a full refund with no cancellation charges? rather than continue to inform me of the cost of travelling to the isle of man which i am well aware of, hence why when i found this company offering to take us all over there and them accepting the payment for the 3 cars and 6 people, and the contract of sale was made of £24 x3 and that there was no mention at all of this amount being for a despoit only and that the full amount of the cost to travel to the isle of man being told later as i would never have booked the tickets under such circumstances,

so just how do i go about making sure i get a full refund then?

    Firstly, you could try asking.

If that fails, try small claims court.
