Cheques have always taken a few days to clear, unless drawn on the same bank0

We are in a digital age, so why accept an analogue cheque!
They (banks) are trying to phase them out, but there are still cries from above to keep them.
Banks hate them - costs them money to process so you'll find that processing of cheques will take longer and longer to discourage people who still want them from actually wanting them!0 -
Do you mean tomorrow or a week tomorrow?
I had nearly £400 taken out my natwest account yesterday, I rang them today to find out what the hell is going on. I was transferred back and forth for them to tell me it was spent on halfords online. Anyway after being sent back and fourth again, I eventually got a answer... "wait a few days when it's actually gone through and ring us back"
I was shocked, so went to the branch for them to tell me the same thing, I rang halfords and they said they're on it to it, my money is safe and they've passed it onto the Police.
I'm going to change my current account because of this, they didn't help me at all when I was being robbed right before their eyes.
edit: ooo I like my little newbie alert haha!0 -

A few days to me is three days, not over a week:mad:
I was sent the cheque by a loan company as a refund of an overpayment, a nice surprise:T
shame I can't get at the !!!!!! till next Friday:rotfl:Nuts oh Hazelnuts:rotfl:0 -
It used to be 'three clear business days', so a cheque paid in today before 3:30 would be available next Wednesday. I hadn't heard that they had extended that time.
BTW, kathy206, the words to the jingle you have in your signature were: "Nuts whole hazelnuts". (If the words are not intended to be from the jingle I'll get me coat.)There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

Yep, 5 working days now - Imagine how cross I was when my work decided to pay me by cheque instead of bacs the day before Good Friday - because of the extra bank holidays, I didn't get paid until 2 weeks before my next payday!0

Id try LLoyds if you are looking to move, Ive been with them 20 years (back when it was just TSB) cheques clear in 3 days and their fraud assistance is fantastic - an episode I wont bore you with but sufice to say they found a way around things so that I still had money whilst they sorted out a certain coloured mobile phone company's online selling system (which apparently is nothing to do with the coloured mobile company even though its on their homepage) who were trying to remove hundreds of pounds from my account!! This comapny told me id have to wait then claim a refund after it had cleared - Lloyds wouldnt have that and stop the funds going out. Id have been hundreds over drawn!!Life happens, live it well.0
