What happens to student credit card after graduation?

Heya, I've recently graduated and I was wondering if anyone knows what happens to my Natwest student credit card when it expires next year?

Do they just close the account because I'm not a student any more or will they send another non-student credit card?

Thanks in advance :)

  • They will probably offer you a new credit card for graduates. When I left uni my accounts stayed as they were for a certain period, with the overdrafts honoured, and then they wrote to me saying I'd be converted to a grad account on X date and overdraft would no longer be available.

Call your bank and ask what the terms are, and then you know where you stand and how quickly you need to repay the debt. I would suggest you pay off your credit card first though - having a balance on your credit card is normally the worst kind of debt as the interest is higher than on overdrafts, student loan etc.

I have Hsbc student credit card and it still the same now that I have graduated the only difference is they give 0% offers for balance transfers.

Thanks for replying. Natwest have contacted me about my student account which will be automatically changing to a graduate account soon, and I have a year until my overdraft stops being interest free so definitely aiming to pay that off before they start charging interest. :money:
