How does the 2-4-1 zoo deal with national rail work?

I'm not sure how the 2-4-1 national rail zoo offer works.

I'd like to go to chester zoo and I understand I need a rail ticket for the day I'm going.

Firstly, there are two of us going so do I need 1 rail ticket to get the deal or do we need 2 (1 each)?

Secondly, does the rail ticket have to have Chester rail station as the destination? Or can it be any rail journey in the uk??

Thanks in advance

I think there may be an error in guide posted by wealdroam, maybe someone could clarify this in case things have changed recently.

The guide says that the closest station is Chester and there's a free shuttle bus between Chester station and the zoo. The last time I went that way the free shuttle bus ran from Bache station, not Chester station. This appears to be a Virgin Trains offer so maybe what they really mean is that Chester is the nearest station that their trains pass through. Or maybe there is a free shuttle from Chester that I wasn't aware of.

n.b. Bache station is three or four minutes out of Chester on the Wirral line. There are trains every quarter of an hour, they're the manky looking ones run by Miseryrail that sound like someone is playing ping-pong underneath them.

  • I'm actually travelling by car but was told to buy a cheap train ticket - do I need just 1 ticket for me or a ticket for both of us to get the BOGOF?

    Thanks

The answers to your questions are in the earlier link I posted.

In particular, the following questions (amongst others) are answered on their FAQ page...
What kinds of train tickets are valid for this promotion?
How many train tickets are required per voucher?

The T&Cs on the website aren't very helpful as they seem to refer only to London attractions but it does say -

"How many train tickets are required per voucher?

Whilst you will only have one London Attractions voucher between 2 people, both people need to hold valid train tickets for the day of their visit."

    http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/faq

Presumably the same applies to non-London attractions.

If you need a cheap ticket to Chester then I'd think the cheapest you would get is a return from Bache to Chester (£1.50 each). I don't think there are any stations closer to Chester that would be cheaper.

  • Thanks for your help both of you that's great :money::T
  • I emailed Chester Zoo and got this reply..
Hello and thank you for your e-mail.

The offer can be used for adult tickets as well as children. You just need to bring with you the voucher for the free entry, and also your tickets showing any train journey that day, it doesn’t have to be into Chester station.

    Thank you

Im going to buy 2 of the cheapest returns i can find (£1.60pp) and get them sent via post and use those.

As someone said before, i think you will both need a return ticket.
  • Does anyone know of any current discounts or vouchers that can be used from today. (1st sep 2011). The current merseyrail one is unfortunatly no good for me as i live in chester. Any help highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
