external hard drive

The cd drive in my laptop is terrible and very slow (dispite laptop being alienware), so I bought an external hard drive that works very well, but I needed to reinstall Windows and it was going EXTREMELY slow with the internal drive and was wondering if there was anyway to switch external one as the booting drive.. I checked on the system utilities at startup and it wouldn't allow me, but maybe there is another way?

TIA,

Ash

  • You want to load the OS from the hard drive that is attached via USB to the PC ?

I don't believe this is possible

It depends if USB can be selected in the boot order in the BIOS.

No it wouldn't let me, is there anyway to change that? The reason I want to reinstall is right now because of a weird problem, I'm on Media Center, but I haven't run the actual media center software in a while and now I can't find it anywhere.. :S

If it's not an option in the BIOS, no.

Thankyou, would you know any other ways I can sort out the Media Center problem?
