Greece AI recommendations

DH and I have decided that we would to go to Greece (or Cyprus?) October for one week preferably AI

The reason for Greece is that although we want a beach holiday we like lots of places to see, trouble is we don't know where to go, Rhodes and Santorini has been suggested, but would really welcome some recommendations of a) where to go and (b) any good 4-5* hotels (not high rise)

We are certainly not going for the nightlife - but would like some entertainment in the evening.

Thanks everyone

We've stayed in Louis hotels in Crete and Kos. Booked through Olympic Holidays, they offer a lot of 4*+ hotels on AI. As well as AI food, they offer entertainement packages, so some form of evening entertainment as well as sports and activities during the day.

Santorini has some striking sights, but isn't the best place for a beach holiday. Few beaches on the Caldera side and black sand and an early-setting sun on the other. Crete would be better. I much prefer to eat out rather than go AI in Greece, although taverna prices have gone up.

Personally I wouldn't recommend Greece for an AI holiday, nor Cyprus. Food is a huge part of the culture in these places and there are a huge number of fantastic restaurants to visit. By staying AI you miss out on that.

AI has its place, it's just not in Greece/Cyprus.

The tourist season is virtually over by October and by then the weather can be cooler.

Heads south to somewhere like Crete and don't bother with AI - sipping a few drinks before eating out late is all part of the allure of Greece.

We just wanted a quick break and have booked a 5* AI in Rhodes. It is the Electra Palace at Trianda. 20 minutes or so from Rhodes town. Got a good price of £1082 for 2, includes meals on the plane and transfers. The hotel gets good reviews on Tripadvisor. It is years since I was in Rhodes so it will feel like a 'new' destination for us. We usually go to the Canaries this time of year but as we had a 'big' holiday to Mexico in May we weren't going to have a late holiday. Have booked this as I am absolutely sick of the rotton British weather! Not to mention that I am recovering from a slipped disc.
