Hi,
I am trying to reformat our laptop because it has gone horribly slow. I have run anti virus scans and it is apparently clear but like i said.. it takes ages to do anything. The problem i have is that my hubby does not want to lose his itunes music and his championship manager game
. Yesterday, I was trying to use the file and settings transfer wizard but it wouldnt work. I was trying to transfer the files over our network but it kept saying it couldnt find a network.. goodness knows why as the pc was on the network and the signal strenght was excellent. I even tried using an ethernet cable to wire the laptop to the router and still got the same message. It would be great if someone could help me find out what i am doing wrong :j. The only problem really with using the files and settings wizard is that i didnt really want all of the settings, just the itunes and champ manager ones.. I definately dont want the crappy norton ones!!!!
Thanks again,
MBMx

IIRC the File and Settings Transfer wizard doesn't work over a network. That's one of the crap things about it.
It's easier to set the folder containing the files as a shared folder (right-click the folder - Sharing and Security) and then you should be able to see that folder from the other machine in Windows Explorer and copy the files across. Or burn to CD or use a USB memory stick.0 -

depends on how its set up , I'm sure I used to to transfer to UNC shares a few years back.
Nice little itunes backup guide here..

you'll find your champ manager gaves within the Data directory of the Champ Manager folder , I think they can be quite large files.0 -

Hi Chippy_Minton
Do you think you would be able to help me get our main desktop to see the laptop in the share docs folder? I can see my sons desktop in there, but there is no sign of the laptop.
Thanks,

Yes, it certainly gives the option to transfer via network, however I've never been able to get it to work. Both computers could see each other in Network Places, yet FAST couldn't see the new computer. I ended up transferring manually across the network.MadCowMan wrote:depends on how its set up , I'm sure I used to to transfer to UNC shares a few years back.0 -
First make sure all computers are in the same workgroup. To check, right-click My Computer - Properties - Computer Name - Change. Then on the laptop, run Network Setup Wizard in Control Panel. You want the 'residential gateway' option (aka router) and choose 'Share files and printers'. Each computer should then be able to see the other computers' shared folders in My Network Places.mustbemad wrote:Do you think you would be able to help me get our main desktop to see the laptop in the share docs folder?
