After 18 months of using F U they have just stung me with 2 massive bills saying i was being billed from another meter.
With no explanation they took £250 DD instead of the usual £45, then they wanted over £300 the following month. I stopped my DD and told them to sort it out, now the wanting me to pay this bill, is there anything i can do?

Yes. Raise a complaint in writing (or email) strictly in accordance with the First Utility complaints procedure. If you remain dissatisfied after their "final" response or after 8 weeks (whichever occurs first) refer the issue to the Energy Ombudsman.

I strongly recommend you decline to discuss the complaint by phone (if contacted) but insist on a written (or email) response.

I cannot say who is right. Neither can you without proper explanation which you are fully entitled to.

  • Check the bill for overcharging

I left them in April not having not had a elec bill for 18 months and a gas bill for over 12. Like you they took £££££ from my account:eek:. I contacted them, complained and asked for a bill and at the same time got the bank to refund the money as they had not notified me before they took it out whcih they must do as I had left them.

In calculating the bill they had failed to credit me with money owed from another account and were not using the correct unit prices - they just charged me at the most recent price and had not either apportioned units or used the correct unit prices that would have been in force at different times throughout the period.

I had at various times been in touch with them over 'no bills' and had the email address from another thread on this site of the Head of Consumer Affairs - Stacey Roberts. When they sent me a final demand having told me they wouldnt until the bill was correct I wrote to her telling her what was wrong and what they needed to do.

Last weekend there was an article in The Times about an investigation they, OFGEM and Consumer Foucs were launching re Overcharging. I told Stacey I had copied my email to them.

I got a reply within 12 hours from her which apologised, ensured me she would organise the bill, I wouldnt receive any final notices and giving me £100 recompense.:T

First Utility's billing is a total joke!!!! To cut a very very long and dull story short, just email the CEO Mark Daeche (mark.daeche@first-utility.com) [its on GOOGLE] and they will start falling over themselves to sort things out! He gets one of his 'henchwomen' (Might be Stacey) to action things, and things FINALLY after YEARS start to get resolved. This is the ONLY way anything will ever get resolved. Believe me I have gone up the food chain with silly "other" people not sorting anything despite all the promises! However, Stacey has to be kept in check too, with the occasional email back to her copied in to Mark. Again, things seem to "happen" then! DO NOT REST UNTIL IT IS RESOLVED. IF NECESSARY KEEP SENDING EMAILS TO MARK UNTIL YOUR PROBLEM WITH THIS AT TIMES DISMELL COMPANY IS RESOLVED. Good luck!
Also, CHECK CHECK CHECK CHECK and CHECK AGAIN THEIR BILLS and CHECK AGAINST YOUR METER READINGS, AND KEEP YOUR OWN SET UP READINGS GIVEN TO THEM TOO!!!!!
  • Oh, reading the message above mine, I now feel cheated in only getting a total of £80 in compensation!
