It sounds like technically, he may well have been "within the rules", due to semantics....however, what kind of gutless clown acts like that?? is it any wonder parking officers have a bad reputation?0

Or maybe the OP was a little longer than, "just a minute?"The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

It's only a contravention in London, and certain other designated areas outside London. It is not illegal to drive over a pavement per se. And since when were we only allowed to park in designated parking bays?
Wrong from start to finish.
It's a contravention to drive over the pavement except for where a dropped kerb allows for access, park on the pavement unless stated that parking is allowed, the contravention doesn't only exist in London therefore 'designated areas outside London' would include the whole country.
And as the OP has already stated, there was no marked parking bay, only a bit of pavement on which the OP assumed they had a right to park on.0 -
At North Cheam, Surrey (opposite Sainsburys) Their are parking bays owned by the shops there, there are no dropped kerbs. To get to them you HAVE to drive over the pavement.. Been like this for donkeys years, so thats Illegal is it. There are many other places like this.
Pavement Parking is NOT illegal outside of London (inc Greater London), its only an offence to "Obstruct the footway"0 -

Just because people have been doing it for years, doesn't necessarily make it legal. The local constabulary might turn a blind eye, as it is not doing any harm, or causing any inconvenience, danger or obstruction to anyone. There is a Tesco Express close to us, with a large pavement area outside. People mount the kerb to park on there, but the local police and CEOs don't do anything about it, even though there is a sign telling motorists not to park there. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
So you drove over the pavement (contravention), parked your vehicle on the pavement (contravention) in an area that wasn't designated for car parking (contravention) and it wasn't marked out as a parking space and you're questioning this?
Obviously he forgot to switch on the hazard warning lights - these immediately make any illegally parked car totally invisible

Really?
I though they worked by instantly removing all parking restrictions for any area used be the vehicle displaying them.
That's how they normally seem to be used. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

It is not illegal to park on the pavement per se. If this were the case London would not have had to make a law to ban it.0
