Also, just trying to find out if it is worth just 'getting on with life' as if we aren't even buying a property for forseeable future, as keep getting these assurances and promises that it will happen this month but just can't see it happening.0

Op, I do feel for you, as being a first time buyer all you want to do is get in there.
The average sale is around 8 -12 weeks when their is just one transaction taking place, in your case with 3 transactions its always going to be more 16-20 weeks.
Frustrating yes, but think of it as as saving a bit more mortgage money before you move.0 -

Please tell me that that's 16-20 weeks including the 12 and a half we have already done?
... What scares me is that as for us to get to this point it has taken 12 and a half weeks (8 of which were due to the vendor stalling so we couldn't start searches *ahem*) so if it takes 12 weeks for the next purchase, which started on Monday, we are talking October/November and if that is true then I just want to cry (more than I have already!)0 -
Yes including the 12 weeks.
If your ready to go, and everyone else is as keen to move, then its up to those parties to be motivated and be proactive to get things done ASAP.
