Wireless/Bluetooth Hi-Fi's

Hi folks,

I'm on the look out for a wireless/bluetooth hi-fi or docking system to use with my iPhone around the house and garden.
I'd like a system set up in my back room but would like additional speakers in other rooms that i can control from anywhere by my phone although I'm not sure if there is such a system?

I've been looking at the Sonos range which appears very good but if i was to want it in 2/3 rooms it would cost me about £1,000!!

The Logitech Squeezeboxen range can be controlled by Android or Apple apps. You can get portable self contained radios or boomboxes for around £160 for each room, or recievers which plug into existing hifis for around £100. The receivers are no longer available from Logitech but can still be found from Amazon and the like. The range is much depleted since Logitech bought Slim Devices, but support and updates are not an issue as the software and firmware are largely open source and there is a large and very active support community.

You do need a PC or NAS to act as a server, but even buying an NAS, you could have a two or three room system for around £500-£650 (0r £300 - £450 if you use an existing PC). Being battery/mains, the portability of the radios/boomboxes allows all rooms and your garden to be covered. You get internet radio thrown in too.

(This presumes that you have an existing wifi network).

I've been using a Bluetooth Headset connected to the speakers to control music remotely from around the house, using this - less than £25 cheap and workable option
