Is it my responsibility for the tree in my garden

I got a eucalyptus tree in my garden thats getting a rite pain in the !!!! as it drops leaves and bark all over the garden and sometimes there have been small branches drop, so i phoned the community housing that i rent my house from and they told me the tree is my responsibility to have it cut down, so i was wondering if it's my responsibility to have it cut as the tree was in my garden when i moved in and the tree has grown to high for me to cut it myself so a tree surgeon would have to be brought in which is going to be expensive.

Does it have anything in your lease about who maintains the garden area?

Look on your lease but as it is community housing that you are renting then there is a very good chance that the garden, hedges etc are your responsibility.

I am never sure why people plant trees like Eucalyptus in small gardens they do get huge.

Tell them to rehouse you in a high rise then you won't have the problem with a garden.
  • Get a good sharp saw and cut a band of bark off from the base of the tree.
This is known as bark ringing, and although slow, it will stop any more growth of the tree and will eventually kill it.

I was talking to a guy at work today about options to kill an elder tree stump. He suggested 'ringing it' in that I could plant something right by it immediately. would anyone agree with this please? or is it unsuitable for an elder tree stump. Thanks

It cost us £75 to have our 30' eucalyptus tree felled. Hardly a fortune.
