Firstly, a Happy & Healthy New Year all of you.
My washing machine has suddenly developed a bad smell. It is a Hotpoint. It is not connected to the main sink pipes etc it is totally standalone and we have had a chap in to check all the pipes attached to the machine and he says they are all fine.
Anyway, it washes and spins fine takes the powder and fabric softner when it is supposed to but when I take the clothes out they are very fausty and smell awful. The washing machine chap is scratching his head and says he doesn't know what the problem is. He suggested using a very small cap full of Jeyes Fluid in the drum.................... any suggestions anybody?

Have you cleaned around the seal, you can get the same sort of pinkish mould you get in showers and if you leave it it starts to smell. I use a microfibre cloth just before it goes in the wash about once or twice a month.0

I take it you have taken the dispenser drawer out and cleaned it thoroughly.
my machine recommends a empty boil wash to clean it every now and then. I have read here people put bleach in this wash then put it through a few rinse cycles.x x x0 -
thanks both - yes I have cleaned it from top to bottom and inside out and also used a boiled wash a few times and still the smell is there in the machine itself and on the clothes when they are washed..............argggggggggggggggg0

check washing machine drain pipe for blockage and put it on with a empty hot wash with some Milton tables.0

make sure your sink drain pipe is clear.
sometimes it can back up and push dirty sink water into your washer.“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -

I too had a problem with a smell coming from washer, but only when empty so I tried https://www.ukwhitegoods.co .uk and they sent me this link with a few solutionshttp://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=43
Hope it helps:oGrowing old is manditory, Growing up is optional! :j0 -
Make sure all seals are clean, take out the dispenser drawer and clean behind it, then try a pint of vinegar in the dispenser drawer, and a cup of washing soda in the drum, then run at 90 deg. I would suggest ceasing to use the dispenser drawer altogether - using a dosing ball in the drum instead will cut down on the cleaning, the amount of product you need, and give you a better result.
You might get some more ideas if you ask for this to be moved to the Old Style board, as it's really more of a cleaning than a DIY question, and the clean queens are mainly over there.0 -
Thanks Tawnyowls
Would you know who I ask to move it to the other board?
Many thanks0
