Mini pop sweet corn not so mini
Good morning everyone, I've just got back from a week and a half away on holiday and my mini pop sweet corn seems to have huge growth spurt.
What was no sign of cobs before I went away has become a couple of cobs the size of normal sweet corn!
Have I lost these few, or will they still be edible?
many thanks

I'd have thought they'd still be edible! Apparently you start to harvest them when the stringy bits start appearing if that makes sense? Perhaps you've got the wrong seeds in your packet as I thought baby sweetcorn were a different variety to 'normal' sweetcorn. they're supposed to grow about 8 baby ones per plant I think, normal is just 1.......but I could be wrong!!!0

Oh goodness, I hope you dont harvest when the stringy bits appear, I think its when they go brown, I have had stringy bits for about 6 weeks..
does anyone else know,
I thought it was when they go brown and then if you open the cob and stick your nail in them there is a milky liquid... Could be wrong tho0 -

I'm 90% certain that's what it said on my seed packet. You wait for them to go brown on the 'normal' ones but not the minis. i'll try and remember to check the seed packet again later0 -
So the ones that grew big were no good, the kernels didn't form as per a normal sweet corn, and the were inedible.
It seems with the mini pop type you do harvest before the tassels go brown. I'm not sure that I'll be getting 8 mini cobs per plant unless they keep on growing, had about 3, 4 at most from one plant, but have left them just to see if i get any more.
I think next year I'll go back to the normal corn.... I think you need a lot of mini pop to make up for one normal corn!Trying to make a better life.... If you need me you'll find me at the allotment.0
