Please help! Cheap travel to Edinburgh from the midlands
Options
Hello,
I am hoping to go to Edinburgh the week after next but I can't find any cheap transport. I have tried skyscanner, megabus, national express and Virgin trains. I'm based in Worcester but can travel from Gloucester, or Birmingham as well. It's all looking £75 upwards and that is at least double what I paid a couple of years ago and sadly not viable for me this year..............HELP, please!

Well, I'm not too fussy, but Friday the 19th late pm at the earliest and any time up to Wednesday the 24th I wanted to go for two or three days. I have to be back at work on the 30th August, Thanks!0

you could try split-ticketing on the train route from Birmingham to Edinburgh (I can see fares direct there with no changes for £40 each way).0

The problem is the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is on till the end of August so most of the cheap train tickets have long gone, try splitting at Manchester Piccadilly might knock a couple of quid off the fare.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0

if you dont mind a long trip you can get megabuss for £26 return now i know you looked before but prob is they have this deal on over summer saying no tickets more than £8. soooo you have to get tickets seperatly bimingham to leed £5 each way and leeds to edinbugrh £8 each way. the site is playing up or maybe it is for me making searches a pain in bum lol but i found this
23/08/11
birmingham 16:45 arrive leeds 20:05
leeds 21:00 arrive edinburgh 01:40
26/08/11
edinburgh 05:45 arrive leeds 10:50
leeds 13:00 arrive birmingham 16:150 -
It better be on, that's why I want to go!!!
Oh, it's on, even with the rain at the moment. I went last week to see the Tattoo and had a quick afternoon today and as per norm it's well worth the visit.
Last time I went I think I paid about £15 from Edinburgh to Birmingham......... and it wasn't in the 70's it was a couple of years ago!
£15 is still the price of the cheapest advance singles on the system, however, you will be very lucky to find any of these, a quick look reveals that apparently £27 is now the cheapest if you book weeks in advance.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
It was luck that got us there last time, we booked a last minute holiday to Ibiza and it flew from Birmingham but back into Glasgow, it was only just over £100 for the week! So we got the train from Glasgow to Edinburgh and then the train to Birmingham a few days later then train back home. I thought I'd be able to get a cheap train but it looks like It will cost more than the holiday to Ibiza cost me!
Megabus deal is the best by a mile all thought that will mean a hell of a lot of travelling......... we'll see.0 -
