Holiday Entitlement and bank holidays

Hello everybody,
I started a new job on the 4th July and work 20 hours a week.
Our holidays run from May to April and I am entitled to about 66 hours off (I think)
What should happen about bank holidays, is there a new law out that you get bank holidays on top of your normal entitlement?
I have been given bank holiday 29th August off where I would normally work that day for 4 hours.
But I then have to work Tuesday, wed, thurs, fri and sat totalling 20 hours.
Shouldn't I get another day off as the bank holiday day should be a holiday anyway.
I'm confused.

If you are contracted to work 20 hours a week, your minimum holiday entitlement is 20 x 5.6 = 112 hours

Your minimum entitlement for the year to 30 April 2012 would be approximately 112/52 x 43 (number of weeks left in the year from 5 July) = 92.62 hours

There is no law about being entitled to bank holidays - though legislation allows for them to be included in your minimum entitlement. So if you are being told not to work on a bank holiday but to make up the hours at some other time that is OK - as long as you do get your minimum holiday entitlement.

What is the holiday entitlement of someone working full time? You need to pro rata your entitlement to that if they get more than the statutory minimum.

Little voice asked me how many days someone who works fulltime gets, so I replied. The only fulltimer in the place I work is the boss/team leader. I'm not complaining if thats what you mean

Not sure, not seen hers. Not got a contract as such yet, still on probation period.
She doesn't even know if she gets any extra than 22 days, but I said I'm sure you get bank holidays too.

What holidays your boss has doesn't mean anything in relation to your holidays! Your boss might have a greater amount of holiday than you. Littlevoice was asking how much holiday someone in your position gets if they are full-time.
  • On the question of whether you're entitled to one extra day off on the week of the Bank Holiday- I guess that depends on whether your employers class Saturday as a new week or not.
If your working 20 hrs on both the weeks beginning Mon 29th Aug and Mon 5th Sep - then yes, I guess you would be entitled to an extra day off because you've still worked your normal weekly hours and haven't really benefited from the bank holiday.
If your working one shift less on the week beginning Mon 5th Sep because you worked the Saturday - then no you wouldn't get an extra day. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I see it anyway.

She doesn't get any extra holidays until she has worked there for 5 years just like the rest of us.
My boss only started in May this year and we all get the same entitlements whether we are staff or bosses etc.
