Sky TV Equipment Insurance Scam

I received a phone call on my land line from 'Sky TV' about 4 weeks ago telling me that my Sky equipment insurance was due for renewal. The 'representative' knew my full name and address. I told him that I didn't want to re-insure as I didn't think it was worth it. He was absolutely desperate for me to give him my credit card number and to pay £60 for "excellent cover". I thanked him and hung up. Since then he has been ringing pretty much every week, I politely kept telling him to give up. The number is always witheld. The git rang me again today and I told him that he was harrassing me, he laughed. I put the phone down and he rang again asking why I rudely hung up on him.
I phoned Sky and they assured me it was not from their offices and suggested that I phone the police (I think the police have enough on their plate at the moment). I have now installed the anonymous call reject service onto my land line.
Sky said that they do not release information to third parties.
Are these just plain old rogue scammers? I dread the phone ringing as the guy is so rude.

I suggest blowing a whistle down the phone line when he next calls.0

Either do the whistle or turn the tables on him and ask him if he would like to chnage his mobile contract or talk about how good virgin media tv service is.0

Get one of those air horns and use that when he next calls.0

Only had this once, said I don't have sky and they went, never to be seen again. Yes I do have a dish and box but only freeview from it.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I've also had one of these calls from "Sky TV", even though they had my details I was suspicious and when I called Sky myself they said no one from their company called me.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
