Payment will exceed credit card limit

in Credit cards
We're finally planning a trip to visit family later this year and, to take advantage of the obvious benefits, we would like to pay for the flights on a credit card. We have a card which we have never used but which only has a £500 limit (can't increase the limit until we spend on it!!). The flights are £650 - would we be able to pay cash (£150) on the card thereby increasing the limit to cover the flight cost? Don't quite know how card companies think but seems logical to me. Anyone got a view??

I think you can pay part of the cost on your credit card (to get your S75 protection) and the rest by debit card or other means.
You generally can't *pre-load* credit cards to put them in credit unless they are purely pre-pay debit cards designed to work that way.0 -
If you do this then it is very likely that the CC company will freeze your account and not allow any transactions to be made!.....:dance:Quidco Payments In 2011 - £724.21
June: £43.15/July: £51.22/August: £90.60/September: £29.75/October: £284.07/November: £171.08/December: £29.220 -
as your credit limit is £500, and transaction hihger than this will be declined.Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0

Could you not buy something for £10 on the card then ask the provider for a limit increase to £660?0

You could spend a small amount on it (e.g. in a local store) then call the credit card company and ask them to increase the limit.
Or can you ask someone else you know to make the payment for you from their credit card (with a higher limit) if you give them the cash / transfer into their bank - a family member or close friend?0 -
Which "obvious benefits" are you talking about? Section 75 protection or something else?0

Any transaction over the limit would be declined, but if poss you can do what you can on card, then difference with DC instead, that way you still get the section 75 if over £100 goes through CC!0

You can put as little as 1p on the credit card (if the retailer will accept it) and still enjoy full section 75 protection.0 -
Thank you Yorkshire boy, glad someone's awake!0
