    all is not lost

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

then post a hijack this log for me to look at

the software and how to copy it are here

not really , you have to know what you are doing, what you can remove and what you cannot, and if it's a new infection/ variant it won't be on there.....

sometimes deleting things on hijack this without running the correct removal tools first, smitfraud/virusblaster etc may mean that the spyware infection cannot be removed easily later on (or possibly not at all)

whereas I can spot dodgy dll files and running processes which it may miss or not be able to identify

yes they could go there and attempt it themselves, or post it here and use the expertise of myself and others to identify the correct way to remove their infection

so here is a better place

Anyone with a more than basic knowledge of spyware removal would know that hijackthis is free

if you took the time to look at the page properly and scroll down a bit there is a tutorial for hijackthis and a link to the free download ( has a flashing green button next to it )

this has the following text if you look carefully on the page

    Quick Start

Many people download and run HijackThis after visiting a Computer Tech Help Forum. This section is designed to help you produce a log, post the log at that Forum and finally remove the items as directed by the Member helping you. This involves no analysis of the list contents by you. That will be done by the Help Forum Staff. It is a Quick Start.

If you have run and fixed anything with Spybot Search and Destroy or AdAware, please reboot before scanning.

Also, make sure that you actually extract HijackThis to its own folder. DO NOT run it from within a zip manager (Winzip), as no backups will be saved.

Notice the empty section in the middle. This is where the scan results will be listed later.
<<--- Examine the two sets of buttons. To start the scan, Click the Scan button on the left.
This is how HijackThis looks when first opened.

You do not have to change any settings at this point.

    HijackThis after the scan.

The Scan Button has a new Caption. Save Log. Click the Save Log button to create a file named Hijackthis.log. A dialog box will pop up. Use it to select the location where you will save the log. Close the program. Return to the Forum and reply to your original post. Open the Log in Notepad. Highlight the entire contents. Copy and paste the contents of the HijackThis log into your post. Wait for help.
