Npower- cold caller not truthful. lowering direct debit to sign me up.
please can anyone advise. An Npower cold caller did not not give me the true facts. I have just moved into a new house so i do not know what my gas and electric usage will be yet. I do know that I am a very low user. Npower have now (on two occasions) lowered my estimated direct debit standard tariff in order to coax me in. Currently its at 24/month. i haven't yet totally switched. today i received my british gas bill and for 25 days it is £10.15. using 111.35 kWh gas and 35kWh electricity. the Npower coldcaller told me that each month i would be able to submit readings and get my money back if i hadn't used as much as i was being billed for. well this is NOT true... i will only get money back if it amounts to over £60 in one year. I am worried i am going to be paying too much. In addition to this i thought i had signed up to a capped rate as he told me 'it can go down but never up'. I am a very low user. what should i do? shall i stick to british gas? i will never let a cold caller in again. it was my first and last. i am suppose to £100 pounds back at the end of the year for direct debit.. but who knows?!

The £105 refund after 12 months is Npowers dual fuel direct debit discount, unlike Bg, EDF, SSE, and Eon, with Npower your next 4 bills from npower (12months) will have no discount just cost of gas and electric based on npower unit rates and VAT (5% on energy bills). Once you have made 12 consecutive direct debit payments to npower they refund you £105 you have already paid them. For a low user I would do a comparison, I would not go on the capped deal if it is July 2012 Price Protector, just their Standard rate but guaranteed not to increase until after 31-7-12 when deal ends. Online only tariffs are generally the cheapest. Npower and EDF are yet to announce increases but will be doing so shortly, so unless on a fixed or protected rate deal with those companies avoid their tariffs altogether. Do an online comparison and see who the cheapest is for you, all the sites have consumption estimaotrs if you do not have 12 months usage yet0
