Can I take it Back?

Just bought a new mattress from a local shop whose website claims that they are cheaper than the High Street and The Internet (bed-king <dot> com)
I've got home to find out the mattress is £120 cheaper on one bed site and £100 on another, and these were just the first two sites that came up on a Google search.

Firstly, even if the website DIDN'T make the "Cheaper than the Internet" claim, would I have any rights to return the bed for a refund?

Secondly, factoring in the website claim, what argument / trading standards law can I qoute in order to demand a full refund.

The Mattress is still wrapped and has not been used so I consider it in resaleable condition.

I'm really annoyed becasue I purposely bought locally and DIDN'T check the internet, as I wanted to support the Local shops but I didn't expect it to be over £100 more expensive to do so!

i would also dispute "Bed King are one of the largest bed and mattress outlets in the UK." it looks like they are local with 1 double fronted store and most like a small lockup unit

i'm fairly certain you wont have any 'rights' for a refund. it's up to you to do the homework and look around.
    helpful tips
    it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)

    Just to add to that...

Do your research before you buy, not afterwards.

I usually do. But in this case I had faith in the shop claims of being cheaper than others. I figured you can't say something like that if it isn't true. Isn't that against some sort of law or standard?

I'll probably take this one on the chin but it doesn't taste nice.

Sorry lesson learned for you hopefully. Do your homework before buying not after. If all the regulars on this Board had a £1 for everytime we see 'I found a better deal after I bought...what's my rights' we'd all be as rich as Mr Martin Lewis!

Moral ....do your homework...do your deal....and stop looking!

Having said all that, do go back and explain your disappointment as per your post...you may get a goodwill £ gesture.

Their website doesn't make any outlandish claims. It doesn't guarantee everything they sell is cheaper than anybody else, they're just pretty vague boasts - similar to the sort lots of businesses make to get peoples attention.

in saying that...you're not entitled, but a politely presented question on the subject may open up the retailler to make a goodwill payment for either the difference or a proportion of it.

The key it politeness, and non confrontational - once asked, if they say no you then know its a lesson learned...

No harm in asking in all honesty
