Dubai Airport Transit

I regularily transit Dubai and have no problem with my medication which I keep in my hand luggage as I cannot afford to get it lost. I carry it a bag which I got from hospital.
I really dont think they bother so much with transit passengers it is mostly people entering Dubai itself.
My hand luggage on the last few trips have only been x rayed on arrival.
Duty free staff will inform you what you can take into Japan.0 -
We transited through on the way to Bangkok last year and had also heard the rumours / horror stories and as we have over 12 prescription drugs between us i emailed the Dubai drugs agency about this matter , we received a very full and polite reply from one of the doctors at the agency , a Sheik as well , he informed us that "in transit " we had no problems with our drugs just to carry a copy of the prescription !
Said we run no risk even with coedine based medecines as long as they were on script , advised us not to carry such as coedine based over the counter drugs , nurofen etc .
Even gave us his personal number if we ran into any problems at the airport !
One thing to remember about Dubai airport is that it is MASSIVE ! and if your transit point is at the other end of the airport you are looking at 40 mins walk !
They have moving walkways and some golf buggies but be prepared to walk !
Also , although duty free is very very cheap , 200 Dunhill International were £10 for example , the cafes , bars and restaurants are VERY expensive , £8 for a medium coffee at Starbucks and pretty much the same level throughout !
But its a Marvellous airport so enjoy your transit visit !A Bast**d I May Be ! I Was Born One !

Never been and never will. All I know that locking someone up for 4 years, just cause they ate a over the counter sandwich at Heathrow is wrong on every level.
worth the extra to avoid the place.

Or avoid it on moral grounds

I've been through Dubai Transit last week and because of an ongoing medical problem carry a large amount of pain killer tablets. Codine and co-codomol and parcetomel and have never even been questioned about it. I've been travelling through transit 6 times in two years and have never had a problem. The last time on the outbound flight I had an 11 hour wait and actually went through customs into Dubai itself what an easy process. All they asked was where I was staying and I showed them my boarding card for my onward journey and I got my 30 day visa.0

As someone who is considering a Dubai cruise, this thread has been most enlightening.

Have only been to Dubai airport x2, both in transit. Had no problems at all. As said before it is a huge airport with not very generous seating (I tried lying on the marble floor in the middle of the night!) as we were there in the night for at least 4 hours.
Refreshments very expensive but there was a FREE chilled water fountain (meant you could fill your water bottles) somewhere near the toilets near our departure gate. I assume there will be other water fountains not just the one!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

I've transited aswell the bags gets X-Rayed and I think we showed our passports, take handgell as the toilets are over crowded and cramped with a chorus of frogs spitting in the sink, and I got bumped into even though I was stood out of the way..
Last tip duty free isn't all that cheap (I don't smoke so can't comment on cigarettes) perfume watches were at least 20-40% higher than uk high st
Finally take £10 or £20 to change into local currency at one of the many fx counters
Any one know if Abu dhabi is similar to Dubai airport going to Nepal next Friday via etihad0 -

Totally different airports !
Abu Dhabi is small and compact , we call it the Donut airport !! `cos its terminal is shaped like a Donut , you can walk round it in 10 mins and the flight gates are easy peasy as they are on the donut as well ! some good shops and cafes and you can pay in sterling , and at a good rates as well , excellent gold store where you buy by weight , clean toilets and if you smoke there are a couple of smoking areas as well .
We love Abu Dahbi but some hate it , different folks/different strokes i suppose !
Enjoy it ! we do
