Designer brand Clothing

Not really. I bought a few items in the past, but didn't find them to be any better quality than cheaper clothes, so don't bother now.
The most expensive items in my wardrobe these days are a few surf brand bikinis/boardshorts and hoodies that i picked up in sales, and liked the look off!0 -
I remember how Nigella looked in her VW corset dress.

That's one designer dress I likeFreedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
I never have (even when I had the money) and have no wish to. I just don't see the added value beyond a certain point. When I talk about 'designer' though, I mean labels like Armani, Valentino, Paul Smith, Chloe etc, rather than Gap/A&F etc. I think there is a point in paying a bit more for better quality (Gap compared with Primark say) but none paying an extra hundred quid for the label in the back.
My OH's brother wears nothing but designer (and has the massive debts to prove it!) He and his wife buy them ostensibly because they 'last' and are 'better quality', but knowing them well, it's really about a need to impress others and creating a persona of wealth and success. Often they deliberately buy pieces with the labels visible (like the Stone Island thing or YSL symbol on shirts). I refuse to buy many Next and Gap products because the name is emblazoned across the front!0 -
We don't own anything designer. There are some brands that we like but that's purely based on the individual items not just the brand name e.g fcuk, and Animal.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

I've never understood people buying clothing or other items simply for the label and the 'status' symbol of wearing a particular brand.
I do however own some quite expensive designer things - some that were gifts and others that I bought because I genuinely liked the way it looked on me or the style etc. Similarly I'll buy clothes from the supermarket if I see something for a reasonable price that I like. I tend not to like clothing that has a logo emblazoned across it so most people probably wouldn't have a clue if something I'm wearing is from Prada or not.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
I wear designer stuff... Out the charity shop
Otherwise I wait til my local Asda reduces the sale clothes to £1 each and buy my wardrobe then

At the risk of getting flamed here maybe, but aren't some designers a bit chav? (Superdry, Gstar, for example) According to my teenage daughters they are anyway. I wouldn't know a designer label if it hit me in the face. My OH refuses to wear anything with the makes name on, so nothing with next or gap emblazoned across it as that is about our limit, as he said a) I wouldn't wear a top with M&S or Burton on the front, so what's the difference, and b) they should be paying me to advertise their clothing.0

Yes, quite a lot are! Wouldnt say Superdry was, G star maybe a little. If they have big logos then maybe, all the superdry stuff i have has small logos like this http://www.superdry.com/womens/shirts/details/27406/premium-dress-shirt
Again though, wouldnt count either of them as designer...The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
