Wanting to go to Duinrell holiday park in Holland does anyone have any tips ?

HI

We are looking at going to a caravan at Duinrell holiday park in Holland for 11 nights anytime after 29th June we live in scotland and want to take the car.

So looking for tips or ideas or any discount codes for ferries etc or the best route to take if anyone has been before any information would be great.

our kids are 10 and 6.

Thanks
Lisa

Superfast ferries will be your easiest route followed by DFDS from Newcastle.

we have done the ferry from newcastle - its much cheaper than the Rosyth one. and it takes you in just outside amsterdam. DFDS used to do package deals including the accomodation which we found good value. lots of companies do package deals but check how much it is to book direct. we have stayed at landal green park complexes and they are very good standard and cheaper to book direct.
last time we went though it was easier (no sea sickness) to get an easy jet flight from edinburgh and getting a hire car at the other end. depending how cheap you get the flights it can be a better option.
holland is great place to take kids on holiday. Efteling is a must.

  • Duinrell is a fantastic site to visit - clean, safe and great fun for the children. I agree with dogrose - try to make the trip to efteling for the day - a magical experience for the little ones.
  • We know Duinrell really well having been there several times. There are english people who work there wo will tell you where the nearest supermarket is, althought the camp site one is ok. If you are going through eurocamp they give good discount for ferries. The camp site itself is fantastic for kids. Go to Nordland to the space centre it is a great day out. Amsterdam is a bit hectic for young kids so I would avoid-especially red light area. There are lots of places locally to visit.
Another option is to save tesco's vouchers, they are worth X4 times there value and can be traded for north sea ferries hull to rotterdam. Rotterdam is approx half to one hour drive, head for Den Haag and you will soon pick up signs for duinrell. North sea ferries are fantastic, kids will love it and it is a smooth crossing.
You will have a great time - even the town of duinrell is nice.
    Waddle you do eh?

We went to Duinrell when our two boys were younger ( been twice ). Like you, we went from Scotland, we got the ferry from Hull to Rotterdam - this was by far the best option we felt. The Rosyth ferry is very expensive in comparison and although that would save you the drive to Hull you have further to drive at the other end. It wasn't that far and fairly straightforward driving to get from Rotterdam to the site. The Hull ferry we thought was very good ( we did have very calm crossings though, dont know what it would be like in choppy seas!) - we felt like we had a mini cruise on top of the holiday. There are cinemas, entertainment etc on board and although the meal was relatively expensive it was one of those eat all you can buffet type affairs and not bad catering standards.

The park itself is excellent for children, the town is easily close enough to walk for shops and there is also an Aldi nearby. There is also a great beach a short drive away and also right at the campsite there are lovely woodland walks, so you dont have to spend all day every day at the amusement park or going down the flumes ( though you might! )

Agree with skldento that you wouldn't want to take your kids near the red light district in Amsterdam but you can avoid it and there is a lot there to see - I know your two are fairly young but it depends what sort of things they like. We thought the Anne Frank house was not to be missed, it really was educational and thought provoking for both our boys, but again, you will know your children best. There were also nice places to eat, and a lovely chocolate shop making its own chocolate. This website has other ideas for kids http://www.travelforkids.com/Funtodo/Netherlands/amsterdam.htm and it 's a lovely city for you as adults to see so I wouldn't dismiss going out of hand. We found it easy to get into Amsterdam for the day by double decker train ( another thing the boys loved ) - ( drive to a station nearby - we went to Leiden I think but found out later there were closer options ).

Makes me want to go back writing this!

We have been three times but always booked acocmodation in their Duingalows. I think they are a fair bit cheaper than the caravans and are a fair bit bigger.

I would def recommend the "D" grade Duingalows even though they are bigger than you need because they are newer, in a nice bit of the park and have a few bits more.

Looking at this and thislink, the price would convert to approx £958 for 11 nights then ferry on top
Everyone speaks English so don't worry on that score.
    Great Supermarket on site.
You get two hours in the pool in the morning and it never seemed so bad that it felt overcrowded.
    The slides are absolutely amazing.
We have travelled around as well but to be honest, my kids just loved the pool in the morning and fair in the afternoons.

There is a wonderful butchers in the town nearby for bbq meats.
    Places to go:
Maduradam - model village in Den Haag, great day out.
