Hoover - Bagless or Bagged is there a major difference in running cost/performance?

Hi all,
I currently have a bagged hoover, it is on its last legs so thinking of upgrading.
My problem is what do I go for?
I want the minimum hassle in terms of cleaning it out.
I am tempted by the bagless variety, is there any difference in terms of performance, or running cost? Obviously no bags would need to be purchased.
I need one of the 'dog on a lead' varieties due to storage space.
Thanks

Do you have a cylinder or upright?
I had a bagless Vax Cylinder, my god....never again
I have a bagged cylinder now and never hope to change to a bagless type.
Cleaning out is very messy and if you're asthmatic (spelling?) it's not good for you. Also the tin.......tin? that carries the dust, the hatch broke (guessing it's just Vax brand as IMO they're not very good). Lost suction power. Alot of the stuff (dust) gets stuck in the filter and very difficult to clean out.
My opinion - stick with bagged
Others will come and let you know of their opinion, I'm sure
'Dog on a lead' variety? what is that?0 -
I have a Dyson DC01 and had it for about 9 years now and I love it.I find it doesn`t lose suction and has a powerful súck on it.It can get a bit messy when emptying the cylcinder, but I do it outside straight into the wheelie bin.
I`ve only had one belt replaced and it needed repairing once as it wasn`t picking up.I payed £49 for it to be repaired and I also got a free replacement handle and cylinder as mine was cracked.
I`d personally only buy another bagless hoover,likely to be another Dyson.Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0 -
I have a Henry and also a bagless type effort. I prefer using the bagless one because its a lot more powerful but its a dirty job to clean. The filters get blocked on a monthly basis and they have to be stripped. Not that we are filthy you understand:o, but it gets clogged with dog hairs mixed in with the dust that go straight into the bag with Henry. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I used to have a Dyson DC04 I think? It was the cylinder one. It was good - but very plastic-y and bits kept breaking off. Now I have a Miele bagged cylinder, and TBH it has even better suction than the Dyson, even with a full bag. It is a really well made vacuum, quality through and through. Wouldn't switch back to a Dyson now.
In terms of mess, the Miele is less messy than the Dyson, but of course, you need to buy bags.
We have a Panasonic cylinder bagged that is not so good - it is great when the bag is new but quickly loses power once it starts getting full.
I think there are good and bad models of each sort - you have to think about your budget and go from there. We bought the Miele as it was a little less than the Dyson, but is supposed to last 20 years +. I think a good quality bagged would be better than a cheap bagless, and vice versa.

We have the Morphy Richards Premair(uses self sealing dust bags) and would never change to any other.

i have a bagless panasonic about fifty pounds i think, i empty it often and the suction is great, never saw the need to pay over the odds for a hoover and i have had a big dog, three children and now cats0

I have a bagged Panasonic which is fine. Used to have a Dyson, bits broke off and suction was no good at all. Decided to stick to the bagged ones and only paid about £60 or £70 for it.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I have a Dyson upright and find it very good - no loss of suction and no bags to buy. I just empty it straight into the wheelie bin so there is no mess. It's very good at picking up dog hair too.
I wouldn't go back to a bagged one.0 -
Hate bagless, as hate cleaning them out! I like Mieles, never found the dysons very good myself. Obviously in terms of moneysaving you do save money on not having to buy bags, but I hate all the mucky cleaning. Never again!Pawpurrs x0

I have a bagged Henry and I love it. I have had a VAX 3 in 1 one which I also loved and had an upright Dyson in between which I loathed. It was forever getting blocked and is virtually impossible to get apart to sort out any blockages. I shall stick with my Henry until he dies and then treat myself to a new VAX as I've never found anything that shampoos carpets as well as that thing did even though I now have the VAX Rapide carpet shampooer.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
