A friend of mine has been sent a tax credit letter saying they are coming out to see her. She has asked me to sit with her when they come. I have never heard of them coming out to see people has anyone any idea why they would.

Never heard of it before. Has he/she rung to ask them?0

Sometimes they pick cases at random to do compliance checks on. They might be asking questions about details she used when she made her claim. Generally this might be to do with childcare costs or any benefits a claimant might say they are receiving.

She can actually request them not to visit and to put all questions in a letter. Then just deal with them via letter.

I had one of them a few years ago (WTC and childcare costs). It turned out that I hadn't got a response in on time and that they had contacted my child carer who had announced that I was cohabiting with a boyfrined at his house. It wasn't true but as they had received information that could affect my claim, the visit was to verify one way or another.
It may be the same sort of query for your friend but as long as she's been honest, I can't see that she should worry (though it's hard not to when you get a letter out of the blue).
It's fine for you to be with her and she is within her rights to have someone present as a witness to any conversation/ interview.Integrity is a dying art!:p0 -

Assuming that the OP's friend already has an award of tax credits, and the status of that award, it may be possible to get HMRC to stop the check altogether. See page 2 of this leaflet and sections 19(8) - (10) and 63(3) of the Tax Credits Act 20020

I read it that he OP is saying that she had a visit when she was on income support ( in the past) and now they would have to catch her in as she now works,i.e Doesnt now receive income support. imoskintas wrote:i had a visit when claiming income support, not tax credit, they would have to catch me in as im at work and im losing a days wages for them........“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line.
