V tickets - think I've been scammed - can I get my money back??

Options
Hi All

I recently tried to purchase 2 x V festival tickets through Gumtree. Bad idea I know, but they were entirely sold out and I wanted to surprise my boyfriend. I contacted a seller, who I then agreed a price with. He provided me with his phone number, email address, email confirmation of the tickets (as they are only dispatched 2 weeks before the event) and, in a later email, bank details. I thought it was fairly trusting for him to give me his bank details so went ahead and paid for the tickets by bank transfer, to which he assured me he would send me the recorded delivery number when posted. Since then, surprise surprise, I've not heard a thing and he won't return my emails or texts.

I still have his bank details etc - anyone know if I can get my money back, report him etc?

Thanks for any help.

The bank details they provide for bank transfers don't mean you can trust them, as it's even on cheques you give out!

Call your bank and say you accidently transferred money into the wrong account, see if they'll do anything about it!

    Hi,

    1. I would report the fraud to police or http://www.actionfraud.org.uk/home
    2. Get the Gumtree ad reference number and report fraud to Gumtree (page will be cached)
    3. Do a through google search with the details you have for this person name, tel, email, etc. Often people who have been scammed post online. So you may be able to track other people who have been scammed who have information on this person.
