Indeed, and there will be a thermal Cutout anyway, should the system actually go dry.
Definitely isolate the water at the Stop-!!!! when you go away.
Something I do is actually reduce the water pressure to the absolute minimum anyway, so in the event I have a pipe burst during normal day to day living the damage is reduced.0 -

I wasn't sure, that's why i put ????? to show it was only what i thought.
What i was thinking of was, i know periodically where my boiler is, i need to open a tap/valve to top up the system with water.
I wasn't aware there was any anti-freeze in the system but it does seem as if it would be a good idea.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Thank you everyone.
So it looks like i should turn the water off and leave the heating on low. My boiler is one of those that only heats the water when you turn the hot water tap on, so im guessing that will mean its ok to turn the water off.
My friends/neighbours will be able to bring water with them for the cats, they have dried food so dont make any mess but do need fresh drinking water but thats all sorted
Thank you again.0 -

If I were you I'd leave out a cheap big bottle of filtered water by the cat's bowl to save them bringing water over with them when they come.0 -

This is MSE - we don't advocate the purchase of bottled water for animals! Surely they have an empty container/kettle/large jug they could use to store tap water.0 -
Something to bear in mind is that, if you go away in winter and do not take appropriate precautions such as turning off water and leaving on heating, you may find, if there is a problem, that your insurance company will be very unhappy.0

You have a combi boiler like me which means that you have no tank and the water is coming from the mains so if you do turn the water off, turn the heating off also.
If it were me I would leave the water on and set the heating to come on twice a day. I have a thermostat which has a min heat where the heating will kick in anyway so I don't have to set anything. Do consider investing in a new thermostat as they are quite wonderful.0
